Abstract

Introduction: Seborrheic dermatitis is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that significantly affects quality of life. Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has emerged as a potential adjuvant therapy due to its regenerative and anti-inflammatory properties.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical outcomes of PRP as an adjuvant treatment in patients with seborrheic dermatitis treated at a private clinic in Asunción, Paraguay to 2024.

Materials and methods: An observational, descriptive, study was conducted. Twenty patients over 18 years old with seborrheic dermatitis were included. Each received three sessions of PRP applied weekly, while maintaining ketoconazole use as conventional therapy. Clinical improvement was assessed using a visual analog scale for pruritus, and reduction of erythema and scaling. Statistical analysis was performed with the paired t-test (p < 0.05).

Results: Ninety percent of patients reported significant pruritus improvement, with an average decrease of 6.2 points on the VAS (p < 0.001). Scaling improved in 85% and erythema in 75% of cases. No adverse effects were observed during the treatment.

Conclusion: PRP proved to be an effective and safe adjuvant therapy for seborrheic dermatitis, achieving significant clinical improvement. Further controlled studies are recommended to confirm its long-term efficacy.
