Introduction: Atrophic acne scars are a frequent sequela that are difficult to treat and have a negative impact on quality of life. Subcision is a minimally invasive technique that has proven useful in improving these lesions.
Objective: To evaluate the clinical use of subcision in atrophic acne scars in preselected adult patients treated at a private clinic in Concepción, Paraguay, in 2024.
Materials and methods: Observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study. Twenty adult patients with atrophic acne scars (mostly rolling and boxcar types) were treated. Subcision was performed using an 18G Nokor needle under local anesthesia. Clinical outcomes, postoperative evolution, and subjective patient satisfaction were assessed.
Results: Seventy-five percent of patients showed moderate to significant clinical improvement. Eighty percent reported high subjective satisfaction (≥ 8/10). Adverse effects were mild and transient, mainly hematoma (35%) and mild pain (30%). No serious complications were reported.
Conclusion: Subcision is an effective, safe, and well-tolerated technique for the treatment of atrophic acne scars. Its systematic application can improve aesthetic outcomes in outpatient settings.
